KAT Hires Two Members to Join Growing Team Print E-mail

jane greer1

Jane Greer joins KAT as Associate Creative Director and Manager of Account Services. To her position, Jane brings 35 years of experience writing for all media. She has taught writing at Bismarck State College and was communication director of the ND Department of Transportation for 19 years. She’s currently writing a book about the relationship between poetry and prayer; her writing partner is Mike Aquilina, author and editor of more than 30 books on the Catholic faith.

Jane “gets” programmers because she’s been married to one—Jim Luptak—for 27 years. She and Jim enjoy their two dogs, Ally and Lana, and their African gray parrot, Noel. (Well, JIM enjoys Noel, who considers herself Jim’s true spouse and lies ON HER BACK on his chest in the La-Z-Boy, giving Jane the stink-eye. Jim recently bought Jane a lovely pair of welding gloves to use when SHE has to handle Noel.)

The highlight of Jane’s 2011, other than coming to work at KAT, was getting a new bathroom, dressing room, and bedroom, but it was humiliating to realize every night that the cleanest place in the house was the construction zone. Jane used to have hobbies and talents but KAT has burned them out of her. She is a dried-up husk of her former scintillating self.

kelli thompson

In her role as Multimedia Designer, Kelli Thompson brings her knowledge of design from MSCTC in Moorhead, Minnesota. She carries over 7 years of experience in the graphic design field. On top of creating some sweet designs, she is also completing a degree in Web Design and Development at Bismarck State College.

Kelli recently moved to Bismarck with her husband Cory and their two beautiful children, Madison and Isaac. Most exciting is the addition of an adorable new puppy named Zoey into their family. Being a Minnesota girl at heart, she loves to be in the almost unfailingly frigid outdoors, playing with her lovely kids, watching movies with her stud of a husband, and, when time allows, scrapbooking her little heart out.

KAT Communications Video Documentary Nominated for a Major Award Print E-mail

A video documentary produced by KAT Communications and Mental Health America of North Dakota (MHAND) has been nominated for a 2011 Voice Award. Sponsored by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a national organization, the Voice Awards recognize TV and film writers and producers that incorporate dignified, respectful, and accurate portrayals of individuals with behavioral health problems into their scripts, programs, and productions.

“Resolana: Voice of the People” is a 27-minute documentary that identifies barriers to accessing behavioral health services (mental health and substance use) in North Dakota’s rural and tribal communities. MHAND is using the video as an educational tool to promote community dialogue and awareness of these barriers, which include a lack of communication and coordination between behavioral health care providers; transportation issues; significant delays between appointments; and an inadequate number of behavioral health care providers and facilities in rural communities.

“Resolana: Voice of the People” features interviews with mental health consumers and rural behavioral health providers who talk candidly about the difficulty they have in obtaining the services they need. “We could not have done it without the KAT Communication's team,” said Susan Helgeland, MHAND’s executive director. “They have a special passion and sensitivity to the nature of working with people who are vulnerable.”

The video, made possible through the support of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, was shown at “Reel Mental Health: Depictions in the Movies,” a MHAND-sponsored event held at the Fargo Theatre on November 12-13, 2010.
